Who I Am and What I Do

suzieheadshot2.jpg

My mission is to provide skilled and compassionate health care through the use of Oriental Medical modalities including acupuncture, herbology, massage therapy, cupping, gua sha, and more. I give all of myself to my patients. I give personal, empathetic care with a smile. Each patient is an individual, and I take pride in treating their mind, body, and spirit.

I was born and raised in Chicago. I did my undergrad all over the city, never able to figure out what I wanted to do. But when I discovered acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, I knew right away that it was my calling. It changed my life for the better, and I wanted to use it to help others.

I was classically trained at two of America’s best acupuncture schools. I began my education in healing at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in my hometown of Chicago. There I learned the foundations of acupuncture, herbology, and Western anatomy and physiology. I also got my certificate in massage, which included training in areas such as Japanese shiatsu, Chinese Tui Na, and Swedish circulatory therapy.

After that I transferred to Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley, CA to broaden my experience and studies. At AIMC I started my clinical internship and continued my education. I studied acupuncture techniques, herbal preparation, and diagnosis theory under Chinese doctors who were classically trained and have been practicing since the 1960’s. I learned Western pathophysiology from a UC Berkeley professor. I studied nutrition, western physical exam, and pharmacology; all from experts in their respective fields.

My clinical internship at AIMC Berkeley gave me invaluable hands on experience. By the end of my time there, most of the patients I treated were coming to see me every week. I got over 1,000 hours of clinical experience. I gave more than 500 treatments in that time. I utilized a variety of healing modalities including gua sha, tui na, cupping, moxabustion, acupressure, acupuncture, and herbal formulas.

Using these treatment therapies I was able to help people with a wide range of complaints. I have assisted patients in regulating their blood pressure, weight, and mental health. I helped people relieve their headaches, digestive problems, and musculoskeletal aches and pains. I increased quality of life for patients with congestive heart failure, lupus, and cancer. The smiles on my patients’ faces brought me more joy than anything else in my life ever has.
I also traveled to Utazu, Japan and took an intensive workshop at Shikoku Medical College. I studied under Yoko Oasa, one of the world’s foremost experts on facial rejuvination techniques. Under her tutelage  I received my certification for Japanese Facial Rejuvination Therapy in 2014.

I graduated with my Master’s in Traditional Oriental Medicine from AIMC Berkeley in 2015.
I am currently living in Chicago and looking to take on new patients. In addition to being an acupuncturist, I am a teacher's assistant at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, where I am being mentored to become a professor. I also help run the school's year end comprehensive exams, as well as the Clean Needle Technique national exams.

Feel free to contact me with any questions you have about me, scheduling an appointment, or anything about my healing modalities!
